Interested in joining the Greenheart Club ?

The first step to becoming a member of Greenheart Club is usually to attend, as a guest, one or more of our meetings. Just come along to the Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce 7 rue Alcide de Gasperi, Luxembourg - Kirchberg at 7.15pm on the first or third Monday of the month. If you wish, you can contact one of the club officers to let them know you are coming to a meeting. You will be made very welcome.

As a guest at one of our meetings, you are under NO obligation to speak! However, at the end of the meeting you're more than welcome to say a few words about how you found the meeting (be honest!), but if you'd prefer to decline, that's perfectly fine also. You just relax and observe! Don't forget that you're more than welcome to come along as a guest as often as you like.

What happens next ?

If you're interested in joining the club, you'll be asked to complete a membership form and pay a membership fee (including a new membership fee). Very soon after joining, you'll receive a New Member's Pack from Toastmasters International.

Initially you may feel slightly overwhelmed by all the information on TMI (Toastmasters International). That's quite normal as TMI is a very large international organisation with hundreds of clubs all over the world. You'll also start receiving by post the monthly Toastmaster magazine which gives a wonderful insight into the diversity of Toastmasters at an international level.

Objective one : speak !

Most importantly, your New Members Pack will contain the Competent Communicator Manual which is your "road map" as you set out on your Toastmasters journey. The CC Manual is a programme of 10 speech assignments, with each speech focusing on a vital public speaking skill (for example, how to structure your speech, using vocal variety, convincing your audience, researching your topic, body language, how to use props, etc). Whenever you're ready, you can deliver your first speech which is referred to as the * Icebreaker*.

Generally, members complete all 10 speech assignments from the CC Manual within three or four years after joining Toastmasters. Once you've completed your 10th speech, you'll receive a CTM award (Competent Toastmaster Award). You're then qualified to progress further on to the level of Advanced Toastmaster (firstly Bronze; then Silver; and eventually Gold).

Help is at hand

You're not alone! You'll be assigned a Mentor (an experienced club member) who will offer you advice as you make your way through the CC Manual. He or she will be there to answer any questions you may have.

It's not just about giving speeches

As a member of a Toastmasters club, you'll have the opportunity to take on many other new and interesting roles. Tasks such as Timer, Ah-counter, Grammarian, Evaluator, Table Topics Master, Gazette Reporter and Toastmaster of the Evening are all roles that are assigned to members at meetings. Fulfilling these roles will help you improve your overall skills as a competent, professional public speaker. You may even feel like becoming a member of the Club Committee which offers an invaluable experience in developing team and motivation skills.
